How to loose twice the weight
We all know that diets work. It does not even seem to matter what diet, just pick one and do it. So how do we make our diet work? That is the million dollar questions. Well in a study published in 2008 in the the American Journal of Preventive Medicine they found an interesting answer to this question.
They found that individuals lost more weight when they kept a “food diary“. How much weight you ask? up to two times more weight.
The researchers was done by the Kaiser Permanente’s Center for Health Research. It followed 1,685 overweight and obese men and women. The diet that they where asked to use was the DASH eating plan.. After 20 weeks they found the average weight loss was 13 pounds for each individual. The participants where also asked to record their daily food intake and also the number of minutes of exercise done each day.
Here is the gold in this study. The individuals who did keep the food diary lost two times more weight. That is correct, twice the weight as those who did not keep the food diary. the final results where an average of 9 pounds vs 18 pounds lost for the same time frame.
It gives good meaning to the old saying… “Don’t expect what you don’t inspect” I have found that just the process of writing down our food intake and exercise alone has resulted in weight loss for many of our Asheville-Fairview Chiropratic patients.
